There’s a new blog out there, all about geeky sorts of crafts - Geek Crafts. Go check ‘em out - including the post at the top today on Dr. Who crafts…
I’ll have a proper post this weekend sometime; we’re still recovering from our family’s visit last week.

It’s all over. We all survived (more or less) School Girl’s first year of school, complete with the kindergarten play/kindie graduation. Thanks to the miracles of adrenaline (yes, her own self-generated adrenaline, thank you), School Girl was able to pull it together and go today.
It was quite a spectacle. Both C and M were able to make it today, which was wonderful. The not-so-wonderful part was having to wait in line for 20 minutes to have our driver’s licenses (or as they put it, our State Issued Photo Identification Cards) scanned and a paper picture tag printed for each and every one of us. The worst part was that it made the kindergarten play run 1/2 hour late, so they couldn’t stay for all of the graduation stuff after. But it was nice for School Girl to have them there just the same.
The play, Chika Chika Boom Boom, was adorable. The kids did a pretty good job - nobody had a breakdown on stage, most of the kids were singing, and everybody had a great time. School Girl inexplicably got a little upset at first - I think she was looking for all of us and couldn’t see us right away - but she did fine, considering.
And graduation went just fine too. There’s a password-protected post with a pic of the play after this - if anybody wants the password, just leave a comment. Well, not just anybody…you have to have at least one comment here, or I need to know you from Ravelry or IRL.
Oh, and even though she’s a big First Grader now, she still doesn’t like fizzy pop. Not even in a root-beer float. Not that I’m complaining…

So…this weekend, even with my numerous handicaps, I finished Zombie Sock #1 and cast one for Sock #2. Pictures are coming up, just as soon as my hand heals up a bit more. As it is right now, I’m typing with all 7 working fingers (9 if you count thumbs on space bars and such). Such a stupid thing, too…I am no longer allowed to use a sharp object (like, say, a chef’s knife) unsupervised by a competent adult.
Oh, and we’re going to see if School Girl is well enough to make it to her kindergarten graduation tomorrow. I finally took her to the doctor after this latest round of the icks. Apparently, it’s not pneumonia, as it’s in only one lung and not both. Plus I’m not sure if she’ll be allowed to participate (which would really suck, I’ve gotta say) as she’s been out for the past 3 days now. Oh, and did I mention that C (School Girl’s other grandmother) is coming up for this? Ugh…if it were only over now.
But enough about that… I really like how the sock turned out. The fit around is just right, and the pattern really does look nice with the striped yarn. You’ll see soon.
Well, now that I’ve managed to open up my cut once again, I’ll finish this up for now.

School’s almost out. W00t! I honestly didn’t think I’d be looking forward to the end of school the way I am right now. It’s a long story, but I’m rethinking whether or not we want to be in public/formal school at all right now. We’ll take another look at things after the “summer” is over, and see if certain things improve once we’re away from the Fun Factory.
Enough about my whining…lets see some fiber things!

As of yesterday afternoon, this is what Zombie Sock #1 looks like. The heel went pretty quickly, and I think I like the garter stitch edging enough to try it on another pair sometime. I’ve also made it up to Sleeve #2’s cap on my mum’s sweater. I’m hoping to have it done enough for her to try on while they’re here (two weeks from now). I might make it…probably not finished, but with most of the hood done and the major seams/sleeves sewn up. With the modifications I’ve made, I just have to sew the shoulder seams and sew in the sleeves. Oh, and the ends. *shudder*
I think I have enough yarn spun up to complete the sweater, but I’m doing another three skeins just in case. I almost always underestimate the yardage when I’m spinning. Not this time, buddy. Oh, no. There’s plenty of fiber left in the tub; if I have enough, I’d like to dye some just to see how it looks. That was my original plan when I bought the fleece in the first place, after all.
