Knitting and Crochet Blogging Week Day 2: New Things

Skill + 1UP – 2KCBWDAY2
Look back over your last year of projects and compare where you are in terms of skill and knowledge of your craft to this time last year. Have you learned any new skills or forms of knitting/crochet (can you crochet cable stitches now where you didn’t even know such things existed last year? Have you recently put a foot in the tiled world of entrelac? Had you even picked up a pair of needles or crochet hook this time last year?.

I can’t say that I did a lot of new things with either knitting or crochet. The main new thing that I did was finish things. I am horribly afflicted with startitis. I must start new things whenever they catch my eye. Which turns out to be fairly often. So this year I’ve been starting and finishing things.

The main new things that I did were spinning. I did my first combed top this year. As in top that I prepared myself, on my little handheld 2-row Viking combs. Along with the combed top, I did my first beaded yarn as well.

This is the second skein I did, as the first one was a 20-yd sample. This one wound up being not much bigger than that at 62 yards. However, it took almost a week of combing, spinning, threading beads and plying to get that. I’m really hoping that I can get faster with practice, but we’ll see.
